About Motability

How does it work?

Motability is an independent not-for-profit organisation begun in 1978 to give disabled people access to safe, reliable and affordable cars. Motability meant 'goodbye' to the cramped, light blue one seater with no space for passengers or the fourth wheel! Now you can lease a new vehicle from Matthewmans and enjoy safe and comfortable travel.

Matthewmans is a Premier Partner of Motability and so stock the full range of vehicles from Peugeot and Suzuki for you and your family to choose from., our expert team give you the time and space to think seriously before deciding what type of car suits you best.

The Schemes

Motability is always developing and refining the schemes and works closely with manufacturers and dealers to find new ways to improve your experience as a customer. The two schemes are:

A Contract Hire Scheme for New Cars

Available on a three-year hire lease, this is the simplest way of having a brand new car. One regular payment each month covers:

• Comprehensive insurance
• Road Tax
• Free replacement tyres
• Replacement of windscreens or windows
• RAC breakdown cover
• Maintenance, servicing and repairs
• Plus, if the car comes back in good condition after three years without any insurance claims you’ll be eligible for £200 from Motability.

A Hire Purchase Scheme for new or used cars

This contract allows you to own the car after contract periods of two up to five years. You arrange and pay for:

• Insurance,
• Breakdown assistance (if you want it)
• Repairs/Maintenance

The benefits are:

• Matthewmans will support and advise you through the full life-cycle of your ownership
• Adaptations do not need reinstallation every three years
• Any number of drivers will be accepted by insurance company
• No limit on annual mileage
• Business use as agreed with insurance company

Am I eligible?

If you receive either

• Higher Rate Component of the Disability Living Allowance or
• War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
• Have at least 12 months’ award length to go when you apply

You can apply for the Motability Scheme as:

• A driver or passenger
• Parent or carer of a child aged three or over

If you're not eligible

If you're disabled but not eligible for Motability, as a blue badge holder you will be eligible for a discount on one of Matthewmans cars. Check this when you call to establish your eligibility.

Motability Advisor

Our dedicated Motability Advisors steer you through the purchase process. We'll help you choose the scheme, check your eligibility and order the car to fits your lifestyle. Call our Motability specialist to arrange an appointment at our showroom or, if you would prefer, at your home.

At your convenience we'll complete a Motability Vehicle Suitability Questionnaire with you, arrange a comprehensive test drive and if, for example, you use a wheel chair we'll check it fits in the car you have chosen. Do ask our Advisors any questions to help you make the right decision.

Adapting Your Vehicle

If you need special adaptations to drive safely or have a comfy ride as a passenger, Motability provides a list of available models suitable for adaptations.

Matthewmans will help you find the car of your choice. Our quarterly Car Price Guide from Motability gives you the cost of more than 60 popular adaptations.

Motability have recently enhanced the scheme further as there are now a number of adaptations now included in your advance payment, offering you a further saving. Speak to our Motability specialist for further information.

Ethical Driving

Carbon Dioxide is one of the main emissions from petrol or diesel. It's a major greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. In keeping with both Peugeot’s and Suzuki’s ethical approach we'll be happy to give you information on cars with low emissions.
